Mammon

Mammon

_

Mammon is our god,

Work is our temple.

We worship at the altar of capitalism.

_

We yearn for a bigger house,

We long for a faster car,

We kneel at the feet of consumerism.

_

We seek promotion,

We store up riches,

We kneel before the idol of egotism.

_

In love God clothes the roses,

Will an Armani suit make God love us more?

What is the dress code at heaven’s front door?

_

How shallow our lives,

How empty our hearts,

What have we left when our false gods depart?

_

You can’t take it with you,

So don’t even try,

Your soul is what counts on the day that you die.

Who Will Weep

_

Who Will Weep

_

Man kills his daughter, child murders child,

We hear it everyday and are rightfully reviled.

Another helpless child is left alone to die,

If all the world turns it’s back who will hear its cry?

_

They give away their baby, it doesn’t fit the bill,

The gender was wrong, a let down not a thrill.

God above is weeping for a world that’s gone astray,

When humanity has lost its God, who will lead the way?

_

An unwanted infant in the gutter dies,

No-one is moved by her ever weakening cries.

Another helpless child is left alone to die,

If all the world turns it’s back who will hear its cry?

_

A little girl screams, her limbs hacked off by a blade,

At least she survived the latest Hutu raid.

Another helpless child is left alone to die,

If all the world turns it’s back who will hear its cry?

_

A Muslim girl, in the street lies dead,

Refused to wear a veil so they shot her through head.

Another helpless child is left alone to die,

If all the world turns it’s back who will hear its cry?

_

Minutes old and screaming, shaking on his back,

Thanks to his mother, he’s already hooked on crack.

Another helpless child is left alone to die,

If humanity has lost its God we must lead the way.

And if another helpless child is left alone to die,

When all the world has turned it’s back we must hear its cry?

Feminine Rights

Feminine Rights

_

In Eden’s shade at nature’s birth,

Man misjudged his true self worth.

Eve succumbed to supernatural spell,

But Adam for a mere woman fell.

_

Yet he and all his future kin,

Blame woman for our death through sin.

God in wisdom was forced to tell,

Of woman doomed to misogynistic hell.

_

But this persistent arrogance of man,

Never was God’s long term plan.

He just foretold what he could see,

Every-man basking in false superiority.

_

Yes Eve was guilty, but so was he,

So when will all women be set free?

Our sentence for that misplaced pride,

Was tragic, spiritual suicide.

_

All were redeemed through Jesus on the cross,

Yet woman still serves time: Man lauds it as her boss.

When God made man he was not good,

He was incomplete without womanhood.

_

Now is the time for man the truth to face,

Restore woman to her rightful place.

Equality, equality that’s the key,

To the restoration of humanity.

A Fishy Tale

A Fishy Tale

At nature’s dawn,

A fish was born,

Unhappy with his lot,

Of swimming through,

The ocean blue,

And so he hatched a plot.

_

Oh mother dear,

I truly fear,

I cannot stick around,

I’m teased by the Whales,

I hate these oily scales,

I’m off to find dry ground.

_

And so, with teary eye,

They kissed goodbye,

Him, free of persecution,

Ditch these gills is what he’d do,

Grow hairy arms and long legs too,

He wanted evolution.

_

On he swam, ambition grand,

‘Til he spied his longed for land.

He rubbed his fins delightedly,

At last I’ll gain my fame,

Everyone will know my name,

I’ll go down in history.

_

But, when he flopped onto the dock,

His courage took it’s greatest knock,

His fishy genes became confused,

He put up a heck of a fight,

But, try as he might,

To change their code they just refused.

_

Pretty soon the poor chap died,

And on a human plate was fried.

I offer no apology,

For this sorry rhyme,

For man has also squandered time,

On evolution’s great mythology.
